Classroom Lending Library Books
CLASSROOM LENDING LIBRARY BOOKS
As you know Horizons does not have a universal library and instead has classroom libraries. Every year EDB tries to find a way to support Horizons to get new books from diverse perspectives into the hands of our students.
How does this work you are wondering? For a month out of the school year, an EDB volunteer will check out, with our local librarians support, and bring in 10 books per classroom from our local libraries. The classrooms may use these books as they choose. Some will use them for read-alouds, some for DEAR time, and some the students can check out. Then at the end of the month, the volunteer would swing back in and gather the books to be returned to the library.
With our focus of "working to create an environment where all students and families feel they belong", offering books from different perspectives allows readers to gain a deeper understanding of perspectives by seeing events through the eyes of multiple characters, fostering empathy, critical thinking, and a broader view of the world by experiencing different viewpoints and interpretations of the same situation.
Thank you so much for your support and dedication to our students!!!!
