Horizons Community Group (HCG): A collection of Parent volunteers who help to plan events and promote a strong, vibrant, socially active community at Horizons. All are welcome! For more information email horizonscommunitygroup@gmail.com
Equity, Diversity, and Belonging Committee (EBD): A collection of Parent Community, Faculty and Staff that meet to discuss and work on creating a more diverse and equitable school environment for our community. All community members are welcome! If you are interested in learning more please emailhk8edb@gmail.com.
Development Committee (DC): This is the Fundraising and Marketing of Horizons. Community Members work with administration to help build a fundraising/marketing campaign to help fill the funding gap that Charter Schools face, help raise money for all of the extra programming that is unique to Horizons. (i.e. Outdoor Ed, Winter sports, individualized learning support systems, etc) We are in the process of looking at Fundraising for Horizons in a post pandemic climate. Finance Review Committee (FRC): This committee meets monthly to review the schools financials. The Head of School, Parent Board Treasure, accounting staff monitor the current and projected budgets. Tracking and making recommendations to the Board, as needed to keep the budget in line. If you are interested or have a skill to share in the financial upkeep of our school, please contact the Principal-jasmine.gravesblack-@bvsd.org
District Accountability Committee (DAC): Horizons is looking for parents/guardians to represent Horizons K8 at DAC meetings. Additional information, including meeting dates, can be found in this link.
District Parent Council (DPC): The District Parent Committee is made up of 1 parent representative from each school in the district. The DPC provides a great inside look at all the amazing things our district is planning and working toward. DPC meets once a month to discuss relevant topics. This meeting is where our school has access to the Superintendent as well as the relevant experts or program managers from the district. Some recent examples of topics discussed are technology and security, curriculum changes, or bond measures. Horizons Representatives can also bring topics they'd like to learn more about. School Accountability Committee (SAC):All schools and districts are required by state law to convene an Accountability Committee. Statute requires that School and District Accountability Committees fulfill the following responsibilities defined here.
